Kendal Au,
BASI Certified,
(Body Arts & Science International)
Senior Teacher
NMR (NeuroMuscular Reprogramming)
TRX Suspension Trainer
Kendal is the Founder of Pilates to the People.
In addition to her certification, Kendal has studied Pilates for post-physical therapy recovery with Lizz Roman & Marcelle Parry at EHS Pilates in San Francisco. Recently, Kendal received NMR (NeuroMuscular Reprogramming) training, a method of therapy which, when most effective, quickly retrains faulty & injurious movement patterns, relieves stress in muscle & connective tissues, improves range of motion and relieves pain.
She has tested her training with her own quick recovery from knee surgery for a decade-old Martial Arts injury. Kendal makes good use of this intimate knowledge of the recovery process to better understand her clients' conditions and how to help them regain health and vigor.
Kendal works with a diverse clientele, ranging from martial artists & athletes seeking increased strength, mobility and improved physicality, to office workers who want to eliminate neck and back pain to new mothers seeking to heal diasitisis recti (the common separation of the "six pack" abdominal muscles during pregnancy) and to get their old body back. She has experience working with people recovering from a range of conditions, injuries & surgeries, and can aptly work with health care providers towards a physical goal. Among the physical issues Kendal has experience with are pre-natal & post-natal, bulging or herniated discs, various surgeries (esp. the lower body), foot & gait issues, sciatic pain, rotator cuff problems, low back pain, neck and shoulder problems & scoliosis.
Kendal has enjoyed swimming, gymnastics, running and martial arts, and of course, Pilates. She is also a community muralist and activist.
The Pilates Method has given Kendal a wonderful outlet for her scientific interest in the human body, her athleticism and her desire to help people.
Sessions with Kendal: Kendal's fascination with the workings of the human body shows in all of her work. She is likely to provide you with descriptions of anatomy, posture & movement in the hopes that your increased consciousness will help you improve your movement and get out of or stay away from pain. She is also quite likely to apply her NeuroMusclular Reprogramming techniques.
Hannah Eberhardt,
BASI Apprentice Mat Teacher
(Body Arts & Science International)
Hannah started practicing Pilates shortly after moving to the Bay in 2009. She found that her sedentary job rapidly sent her down a road of back pain and fatigue. She actively sought out Pilates and discovered that it got her out of pain even more rapidly! She spent a lot of hours babbling on & on to her friends and family about how awesome Pilates made her feel and finally decided to just show other folks the benefits she was experiencing instead of just talking about it. She completed her Mat Work Teacher Training Course with BASI (Body Arts & Science International) in February, 2011.
When she's not working on her six pack, she is playing music or cooking vegan feasts for friends. Hannah graduated from Transylvania University with a bachelors in Women's Studies and Spanish Literature and Language and is currently taking classes at CCSF.
Hannah discovered Pilates while working a low paying social-work position and didn't have much money to spend on activities outside of paying rent. Pilates to the People allowed her to become healthier and stronger on a budget. Hannah feels closely connected to the principles that go into Pilates to the People. Hannah, herself, insists on being part of a community where we can help each other become physically and mentally balanced regardless of financial status.
Classes with Hannah: Hannah focuses on strength, length, tone, and posture in her practice & in her classes. Classes tend to appeal to intermediate clients but beginners are very welcome! Come check her out!
Krista Knudsen,
BASI Apprentice Teacher
(Body Arts & Science International)
Krista completed the Comprehensive Teacher Training Course with Body Arts and Science International (BASI) In March 2011.
A California native with a passion for movement, Krista pursued theatre, dance, and gymnastics from a young age and received her BA in Dramatic Art with a minor in Dance from the University of California, Berkeley, focusing mainly on the Martha Graham modern dance technique in college. Soon she began acting, singing, and dancing her way all over the Northern California in free plays and workshops for young people about health topics. She spent several years in Los Angeles, performing in educational theatre, film, and performance art, as well as designing health education curriculum, directing, and writing. She fell in love with Pilates while living in Southern California, finding it to be an invigorating, inspiring and safe workout while she recuperated from foot surgery.
Krista believes in the power of mind-body pursuits and artistic expression to transform individuals and communities and tries every day to contribute something positive to the world around her. Krista also loves cooking, hiking, exploring, and her super dog, Miles.
Sessions with Krista: Krista’s Pilates teaching style encourages correct alignment, posture and creative flow. Empathy, sensitivity, and fun are high priorities for Krista in Pilates and all she does. She is a careful, yet challenging instructor.

Lauren Ross,
BASI Graduate
(Body Arts & Science International)
Lauren first discovered Pilates while seeking relief from back and body pain related to her scoliosis and poor posture. Within a few months of private sessions Pilates had become an integral part of Lauren’s exercise regime, and she made the decision to teach within a year. Lauren also studies Psychology and volunteers time at a Domestic Violence shelter, and loves to find ways to bring Pilates to survivors of trauma and emotional distress, and anyone for whom exercise, body awareness and self care feels like an impossible task.
Yuki,
BASI Certified, Senior Teacher
(Body Arts & Science International)
Nueromuscular Therapist
Yuki brings over 15 years of dance background and his experience of
Neuromuscular Therapy (manual therapy for pain relief) to his Pilates sessions. He received his Pilates certification from Body Arts Science International (BASI) in 2007, completed BASI advanced Mentor and Master Programs and participated in the book Pilates Anatomy (to be published March 25, 2011) as a model. His main focus with Pilates is to provide an environment which brings intentions into the present moment, facilitating a shift of the mind to the inner body. He believes we are conditioned by society to ignore the inside of the body by focusing on too much thinking and things we visually see. Thinking never allows us to be in the moment. Instead, the key is to focus on feeling in order to tap into our subconscious mind that is stored within the body. When we look at Pilates this way, it is really a discipline and a lifestyle rather than an exercise. Strength, flexibility, stress relief are secondary and will follow naturally. His goal for each session is to provide a challenging yet supportive environment so that each session can finish with a feeling of improvement and wellbeing. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in holistic health education.
Get healthy and fit in a relaxed, accepting and encouraging atmosphere!
All bodies welcome!
